Board of Supervisors Appoints North Mesa Justice of the Peace

Today the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed a new Justice of the Peace for the North Mesa Judicial Precinct. Kyle Jones comes to the job with plenty of experience serving Maricopa County Justice Courts.  He has served the North Mesa precinct since 2012, first as a full-time Justice of the Peace and then as a Pro-Tempore.

“Kyle Jones’ temperament and experience make him a natural fit for this office,” said District 2 Supervisor Steve Chucri, whose district includes the North Mesa Judicial Precinct.  “He has a passion to do right by others and, having worked in the North Mesa Justice Court for more than seven years, he has already built relationships with staff that will ensure a seamless transition.”

Jones’ public service also includes eight and a half years serving on the Mesa City Council, the final two and a half of which he was Vice Mayor.

Jones replaces Judge Cecil P. Ash who retired on September 30.  Since Ash was a Republican, state law required the Board to appoint another Republican to fill his position until the next election.  The appointee is also required to be a registered Arizona voter who lives within the precinct.  You can see the full precinct boundaries here.

To retain the position, Jones will have to run for the office in the 2020 primary and general elections.
