[ARCHIVED] New Career Center Opens in Glendale

WestvalleyTest

Maricopa County’s West Valley Career Center officially opened a new, more convenient location in Glendale to serve both job seekers and employers.  With more than 200 people moving to Maricopa County each day, the demand for high-quality jobs is growing, especially in the West Valley.

“Some people have great connections and great jobs,” said Bruce Liggett, Director of the Maricopa County Human Services Department.  “Others are looking for opportunity, and the path to employment can begin here at our West Valley Career Center.”

The Career Center’s new location at 44th Avenue and Olive Street in Glendale is near neighborhoods, businesses, public transportation, Glendale Community College, and the Department of Economic Security.  Relocating here, from the previous location off 99th Avenue, is expected to save Maricopa County $400,000 per year.

The Career Center is operated by Arizona@Work, a system of services responsible for workforce development across the state.  It is staffed by employees from both the Maricopa County Human Services Department and the Arizona Department of Economic Security.  The Career Center provides free employment services to anyone seeking a job including the priority populations of veterans, opportunity youth, and people with multiple barriers to getting a job such as individuals with disabilities, involvement with the justice system, or long-term unemployment.  The West Valley location offers resources, training, and education for those job seekers as well as business services for employers looking to hire.

In fiscal year 2019, the county’s workforce program served nearly 17,000 individuals and 850 employers.
