CADD Standards

The CADD resources supplied on this page support the current CADD Standards that are approved by MCDOT. There are separate resources for the V8i versions of InRoads/MicroStation and the new OpenRoads Designer CONNECT series of software. It is highly recommended not to mix these file types or resources.

The resources provided on this page for the MicroStation V8i Files (dgn.zip) and CONNECT EDITION versions of the Bentley software have been updated to incorporate Maricopa County Department of Transportation’s new logo within the title blocks and borders. Please download and us the new resources for any projects that are in progress. Completed projects that are closed do not need to be upgraded.

Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) CADD software format is Bentley V8i Edition for any projects started before July 1, 2023. Any existing projects completed before July 1, 2023 will be maintained in this original format. All projects started after July 1, 2023 will be created using the OpenRoads Designer/MicroStation CONNECT version utilizing the resources found at the bottom of this page.

CONNECT EDITION

OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition 2022 Release 3 (10.12.02.4)

Bentley Systems has developed a new product that is replacing the legacy V8i versions of MicroStation and InRoads. Bentley has identified that these products will be phased out in the not-too-distant future. The main replacement product is OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition which contains MicroStation CONNECT and OpenRoads (replacing InRoads). Maricopa Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has chosen to standardize on OpenRoads Designer as the main roadway design and general CADD drafting program. Other CONNECT Edition applications, (OpenBridge Designer, OpenBridge Modeler, etc.) will become available on this page as MCDOT develops the workspaces and standards required.

CADD production by consultants and contractors to MCDOT can be delivered utilizing the Bentley CONNECT Edition software version available below, but it is not required at this time. Interested parties should contact the MCDOT CADD Manager and designated Project Manager to determine if it would be a good project for utilizing the OpenRoads Designer MCDOT Workspace.

It is important NOT to use DGN, DGNLIB, CEL files or resources from the V8i legacy series shown above with CONNECT version projects. It is also important not to use the MCDOT CONNECT Workspace from previous versions as the product schema, features and capabilities have changed and are not compatible with this version. USE ONLY CONNECT EDITION resources delivered below for any new projects or designs.

MCDOT has not made the delivery of projects mandatory with the OpenRoads Designer/MicroStation CONNECT Edition software applications but anticipates this requirement beginning July 1, 2023. Any new projects started after this date shall be delivered using OpenRoads Designer/MicroStation CONNECT Edition. 

MCDOT is providing these resources for incorporation with the Bentley CONNECT Edition software. No warranty, expressed or implied, is made regarding accuracy, adequacy, completeness, legality, reliability, or usefulness of any information. MCDOT has incorporated its construction standards into the Bentley Environment and works the same as Bentley (out of the box).

It is the responsibility of the Consultant to monitor this resource page for updates to the CADD standards and supportive training content. Delivered CADD files shall reflect the standards in accordance with the MCDOT file requirements set forth by the OpenRoads Designer MCDOT Workspace and Sample PDF Set.
