Installation Procedure for Drainage Design Management System for Windows 5.3.0

  1. Back Up Old Drainage Design Management System for Windows (DDMSW) Projects
    1. Back up all DDMSW projects created in the old version of the program. To back up projects, launch DDMSW and then go to:
      1. File
      2. Project Management
      3. Backup Project
      4. Select a Project
      5. Click the "Backup" Button - The backup projects are saved in zip format to the "backup" sub-folder in the DDMSW installation folder.
    2. Copy the backup projects to a folder outside the DDMSW installation folders. It is always recommended to save backup projects to a different computer or hard drive for safe keeping purposes.
  2. Install DDMSW 5.3.0
    1. Right-click the Installation File (ZIP) and choose "Save Target As" to download the installation file, FCDMCInstall530.exe, to a temporary folder (for example, "C:\FCDMC\DDMSW530Download") on your computer.
    2. Double-click on FCDMCInstall530.exe to start the installation process. A warning message will be displayed to allow you to change or accept the default installation folder.
    3. Select or identify the installation folder (for example, "C:\FCDMC\DDMSW530Download") and follow the installation process. The installation package will guide you through the rest of the steps.
  3. Launch DDMSW 5.3.0
    1. After DDMSW 5.3.0 is installed, launch the program by clicking the shortcut icon on the desktop. After launching DDMSW 5.3.0, click on the "OK" button in the "Agreement" window if you agree with the disclaimer. Further, click the "OK" button in the "Select Project" window.
  4. Initialize DDMSW 5.3.0
    1. Set-up the PDF Reader and Text Editor. On the Main menu, click on Tools and then go to Options to open the "Setup Options" window.
      1. To set-up the PDF Reader, click the "Browse" button on the right hand side of the "Adobe Reader" text box to locate Acrobat Reader on your computer. Click the executable file then click "OK." This step will set up the path to the Acrobat PDF Reader to show all help documents in the Help menu. Click "OK," then "Save."
      2. Upon installation, the "Programmer's File Editor" (pfe32.exe) is automatically set as the default word processing editor. You can change it to your preferred word editor by clicking on the browse button on the right-hand side of the "Text Editor" text box to locate the executable file of your preferred word editor, like notepad.exe, wordpad.exe, or winword.exe. Click on "OK," then "Save."
      3. Click on the "OK" button on the "Setup Options" window to exit "Setup Options."
    2. Set-up Model Runs Path. This step will define the path or location where the model files are ran and saved by DDMSW.
      1. If a project already exist in the project directory, follow these steps:
        1. Go to File.
        2. Select Project to open the "Select Project" window.
        3. Highlight the project you are to set up.
        4. Click "OK" to close the "Select Project" window.
        5. Then go to File, Project Paths to open the "Project Paths" window.
        6. Click the "Browse" button on the right-hand side of the "Model Runs Path" text box to select the folder for the Model Runs Path. (The default folder is "Modlruns" under your installation folder. You can also select a different folder for your Model Runs Path, if preferred.)
      2. If a new project is to be created, then go to:
        1. File
        2. New Project to Open the "Select Project - Add" Window
        3. Set Up and Save the New Project
        4. Then Go to File -> Project Paths to Set Up the Project Path
  5. Import Old Projects
    1. Import project files that have been backed-up in earlier versions of the program. To import, go to:
      1. File
      2. Project Management to Open the "Project Management" Window
      3. Import Project Radio Button -> "Import" Button
      4. Locate the Folder Where the Backup Projects are Located
      5. Highlight the Project
      6. Click "OK" to Import into DDMSW 5.3.0 Program Database
    2. To import more projects, repeat previous step.

Special Installation Notes for Windows 7, 8, & 10

To install the program on enterprise domain joined computers where users do not have local administrator privileges to install programs, the network administrator should conduct the program installation and grant all users with write privileges on the DDMSW installation directory.

To install on a local personal computer, the installer should run the set-up file as an Administrator. This is done as follows: Right-click on the DDMSW installation package and select "Run as Administrator."

Setting Up / Modifying Access Privileges on the Installation Folder for Non-Privileged Users

  1. Log in using an administrator account.
  2. Navigate to the installation folder.
  3. Right-click the folder and select "Properties" to open the Properties window.
  4. Click the "Security" tab.
  5. Select the user whose access permission needs to be modified.
  6. Check the written permission check box if it is not checked.
  7. Repeat (5) and (6) for each additional user.
  8. When all users have been updated, click OK to close the window.
These steps can also be used if DDMSW is already installed but will not launch due to folder access permissions.
