Construction Activity Update
ROADWORK AHEAD!
Beginning in mid May, crews will be on site performing utility relocation efforts in advance preparation for roadway construction. The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is currently slated to begin roadway construction activities in early August, just prior to the completion of utility relocations in early September.
Phase 1 Roadway Construction Activities
Starting August 2011, work will begin at the current intersection of Sarival Avenue and Butler Road and extend eastward to Litchfield Road, then curve southeastward to the current Northern Avenue alignment at Dysart Road. Interim Phase 1 roadway improvements include the construction of a four-lane roadway (two travel lanes with paved shoulders and auxiliary lanes in each direction); ramps at future grade separated crossings (overpasses); bridged crossings at the BNSF spur at 143rd Avenue and Sarival Avenue; the installation of traffic signals at Sarival Avenue, Reems Road and Litchfield Road; street lighting; and curb and gutter on ramps and cross streets.
Phase 1 construction between Sarival Avenue and Dysart Road will take approximately 13 months and roadway completion is slated for September 2012.
Traffic Restrictions
Temporary closures or lane restrictions can be anticipated. Access will be maintained at all times for residents, businesses and emergency vehicles.
Construction Work Hours: In accordance with seasonal changes, utility relocation crews (APS, COX, QWEST, Southwest Gas) may begin activities as early as 6:00 a.m. and work until 7:00 p.m. Some evening or weekend work may be required. About the Project
The future 12.5 mile segment of Northern Parkway extending between SR Loop 303 and US 60/Grand Avenue will traverse along the current Butler Road alignment between Loop 303 and Litchfield Road north of Luke Air Force Base (LAFB) and then shift southeastward along the current alignment of Northern Avenue through the jurisdictions of Maricopa County, El Mirage, Peoria and Glendale.
The future Northern Parkway will consist of six travel lanes (three travel lanes in each direction with a raised center median). Grade-separated intersections (overpasses) will enhance traffic flow at major arterials, including Sarival Avenue, Reems Road, Litchfield Road, Dysart Road, El Mirage Road, 103rd Avenue, 93rd Avenue (west ramps), 91st Avenue (east ramps), 83rd Avenue and 75th Avenue.
Overpasses will also cross over the BNSF Railroad at 143rd Avenue, 99th Avenue and 97th Avenue. Major bridges will cross the Agua Fria River, New River, Grand Avenue, the adjacent BNSF railroad tracks and a bypass bridge will cross over SR Loop 101.
